It is the policy of the University of Massachusetts Boston Police Department to thoroughly investigate and accurately document all crimes observed by or reported to us.

A statement on Identity Theft:

Identity Theft is defined as “the wrongful use of another person’s identifying information, such as social security number, date of birth, driver’s license data, credit card account and/or bank account information, to commit fraud or other crimes.”

If you believe that you the victim of identity theft, you should contact the UMass Boston Police Department immediately.

Victims are advised to obtain a copy of their credit report to review for accuracy. Additional unauthorized activity can be discovered during this review. Close accounts that you know or believe have been tampered with or opened fraudulently.

Victims are also advised to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) by contacting that agency at 877.439.4338, the FTC Identity Theft Hotline. The FTC website is located at http://www.transunion.com/
