
Catherine Masse
Biography
Dr. Catherine Masse is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Education from Regis College, a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Framingham State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Simmons College.
Area of Expertise
Dr. Masse’s areas of expertise include nursing education and curriculum development, critical care nursing, thoracic and cardiac nursing, patient safety and quality improvement, and clinical leadership. She has extensive experience in medical-surgical intensive care, hemodynamic monitoring, renal replacement therapy, post-operative thoracic and cardiac care, and advanced airway management. Her professional focus also includes simulation-based teaching, competency evaluation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the development of specialty nurse training programs. In addition, she is active in quality improvement initiatives, interprofessional communication strategies, and scholarship through regional and national conference presentations.

Dr. Masse's clinical background includes extensive critical care experience at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she has worked in both the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit and the Thoracic Surgery Intermediate Care Unit. She has expertise in managing critically ill patients, hemodynamic monitoring, renal replacement therapy, and post-surgical care.
She is actively involved in professional development and quality improvement, serving as Co-Chair of the ICU Nursing Practice Council. She has presented at national and regional conferences and is a member of the Massachusetts Nursing Association and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
